A little birdie told me...

What are people humming about you?

Boasting about your own company is like having your mother say that you're a wonderful person. It’s not that it’s not true but its biased. Hearing the same from a third-party, on the other hand, is considered more objective and credible.

We tend to trust outside sources. Advertising all on its own may not be taken seriously because it’s all about a company paying money to boast about itself. There is nothing to back up the claim.

Credibility comes from hearing about a company through other sources because we prefer the opinion of people we value and respect.

"A brand is no longer what we tell the customer it is – it is what the customers tell each other it is.” - Scott Cook, co-founder of Intuit.

If you want your customers to talk about you, you need to give them something to talk about. Figure out what you want people to say about you and then exemplify those things everyday. It’s that easy.

"If you're not doing something that people will remark on, then it's going to be hard to generate word of mouth." – Jeff Bezos, Founder and CEO of Amazon.

What are you going to do today to get people talking?
